About JAKA Group
GROWTH

...continued

In March 1982, the JAKA Group undertook its second major move in agribusiness when the company acquired the properties of Sunripe Coconut Products, Incorporated, a domestic company engaged in the production of desiccated coconut. The venture was given the name of New Sunripe Coconut Products, Incorporated. A year later, JAKA acquired some 931 hectares of rubber and coconut land from Mangal Development Corporation and with Eurasia-Mangal Agricultural Development Corporation, entered into rubber and coconut production.

In 1986, the company exercised its option to buy a newly-rehabilitated desiccated coconut manufacturing facility in Candelaria, Quezon. Pacific Royal Basic Foods, Incorporated was subsequently organized to operate the plant and to export its desiccated coconut production directly to its consumers in North America and in Europe. A third desiccated coconut company – the Lucena Desiccated Coconut Products, Incorporated was formed during the latter part of the year to operate another plant in Dalahican, Lucena City.

The succeeding years saw the unparalleled growth and diversification of the JAKA Group of Companies. JAKA’s property base was increased with the acquisition of a 7,000 square meter property along Pasong Tamo, the Elizalde and Cibeles Building along Ayala Avenue and the JEG Building in Legaspi Village – all in the prime business and financial district of Makati City. In early 1989, JAKA signed an agreement with Sigma Investments Corporation to construct Splendido Gardens Salcedo, a 21-storey first class residential condominium property located along HV dela Costa Street in Salcedo Village, Makati and land banking activities in Southern Palawan was initiated.

The investments in real estate were complemented with the continued diversification of the company in other fields of endeavor. A 24-hectare prawn farm was developed in Nasugbu, Batangas under JAKA Aquaculture Development Corporation, and Royal Rubber Products, Incorporated started manufacturing latex gloves in its factory in Zamboanga City. RMI Marketing Corporation – the forerunner of JAKA Distribution, Incorporated was organized in 1990, and became the contact marketing and distribution network for in-house and third party products.

By the end of the year, the Eurasia Group was transformed into the JAKA Group of Companies, with its well-defined mission, vision and core values.
