About JAKA Group ...continued During the early part of the 1990’s, the company continued investing in the property sector. JAKA Land, Incorporated was organized as the holding company for the prime properties of the JAKA Group, including the four prestigious office buildings in Makati as well as other properties in Metro Manila that were earmarked for later development. JAKA Tagaytay Holdings Corporation was established to develop the Tagaytay property into a first class golf course and residential subdivision. JAKA Property Management Services, the progenitor of JAKA Property Development and Management Corporation was created to manage and develop the company’s properties as well as that of third party clients. Additional land banking acquisitions were made by the company in 1991 – a 4,600 square meter property in Pasong Tamo Extension and a 22-hectare property in Tabangao, Batangas. In 1992, JAKA Property Management and Development Corporation undertook the development of Mountain Ridge Villas, a private low-density luxury residential condominium project along the Tagaytay Ridge. The company likewise developed JAKA Village, a 2.3-hectare affordable housing project in San Pedro, Laguna and the JAKA Plaza, a 5,500 square meter strip mall along Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Paranaque City. It was during the same period when the company acquired shares of stock in Far East Bank and Trust Company and Philippine Overseas Drilling Corporation equivalent to one board seat in each of the two companies. In 1994, Jack Enrile – the eldest of the two Enrile children, assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, marking the first time that a member of the family took over the reins of the fast-growing conglomerate. During the same year, the company turned multi-national with the acquisition of Sabah Match Factory Sdn. Bhd. in Sabah, Malaysia. The following year, JAKA acquired Barney Foods International Incorporated from Metro Pacific, and subsequently renamed it JAKA Food Processing Corporation. The company likewise established Pacific Royal Bottling Corporation and Asia PET Corporation, both companies representing JAKA’s entry into the bottled mineral water market. It was also in 1995 when JAKA Industrial Products Corporation was established as the company decided to integrate backwards and source its own industrial and construction materials requirements for its real estate development projects. In 1996, a foreign joint-venture company was established – the PT JAKA Saktibuana in Bitong, North Sulawesi, Indonesia to further increase the company’s safety match manufacturing capabilities. A second joint-venture company, the JAKA Tagaytay Holdings Corporation was likewise established to spearhead the construction of the company’s flagship project, the 277-hectare Splendido Taal Residential, Golf and Country Club. Under the stewardship of Jack Enrile during the first half of the 1990s,
the JAKA Group of Companies went through an unparalleled period of rapid
growth and highest profitability. Upon his election to the House of Representatives
in 1998 as Congressman of the 1st Legislative District of Cagayan, Congressman
Jack Enrile formally assumed the position of Vice Chairman of the Board
of JAKA Investments Corporation.
