JEC LAUNCHES THE FUEGO WATER RESISTANT MATCHES
by ABSevera

JAKA Equities Corporation launched its new line of matches, the Fuego Water Resistant Matches during the National Sales Conference of JAKA Distribution, Inc. at the Fontana Resort in Clark Field, Pampanga last February 27, 2003.

The Fuego Water Resistant Matches is the realization of JEC's vision to maximize its competitive advantage in matchmaking and in penetrating a specific niche of the market. According to Mr. Alain Mallonga, product manager of JEC, the Fuego Water Resistant Matches is JEC's response to the challenge of creating a "fighting brand" in the water-resistant category. "We see Fuego Water Resistant Matches as our avenue to dominate the water resistant match segment in Luzon and to combat the distribution of our competitor's brand in our stronghold areas," said Mr. Mallonga.

During the launching, Mr. Mallonga highlighted the different marketing and sales activities that are being under taken to promote the Fuego matches. TV commercials, radio ads, event sponsorship, product demo and sampling, merchandising and even adopting competitive pricing structures will be adopted to create brand awareness and market sales.

To really polish up the quality of the Fuego Water Resistant matches, JEC invested time, effort and money to ensure the reliability of its water resistant feature. For one, a Band Dipping machine was acquired to improve the appearance and uniformity of the match sticks. Mr. Apollo Gicum, JEC Production Manager, said that "the machine will provide with us the needed competitive edge in terms of quality." Also, the JEC Quality Assurance and Research Departments developed several match head formulations that were subjected to a battery of tests to determine the best chemical mix for the Fuego Water Resistant Matches.

The Fuego Water Resistant Matches is truly an over-all water-resistant product from its match sticks and match heads to its outer box and striking surface. It is ideal for humid or cold places or for people working or living in coastal areas. It also has practical uses here in our country since typhoons and floods often visit us so even if the matches, or even the matchbox is soaked in water, it would still easily light up. With its improved match head composition and packaging, you are sure of having light when you need it come rain or come shine. Definitely, Fuego Water Resistant Matches is just the beginning of bigger things ahead for JAKA Equities.

JAKA SIGNS INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT WITH UA&P
by MGAntonio

JAKA Investment Corporation has been designated by the University of Asia and the Pacific as one of the host companies in the university's student internship program.

In a Memorandum of Agreement signed between Human Resources Department Head Atty. Rowel S. Barba and Dr. Maria Victoria Caparas of the university's Master of Science in Management Program, graduate students of UA&P will undergo a three-month internship program with the different departments of the JAKA and its affiliates. A total of five internees were selected from a list provided by the university, and were assigned to the Human Resources Department, and the Corporate Strategic Cell and JAKA Distribution, Incorporated.

As part of their intership program, the student-interns are required to handle a specific project for their host company that is suited to their academic orientation and interests. With the program, the students are given hands on training on the internal and external workings of the corporate world, complementing the management concepts and theories that they have learned in school.

SIGMA SECURITY TRAINING ACADEMY
by MGAntonio

The project of setting up an inhouse Sigma Training Academy emanated from the increase in the demand for highly trained security personnel largely due to the worsening peace and order situtation and the emerging threat of terrorism in the country. It is estimated that to date, about 1,600 security agencies currently employ some 300,000 security guards nationwide. Said security agencies have varying training standards and most of them do not even comply with existing industry standard. Another glaring fact is that according to the Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Department of the PNP, some 40% of licensed security guards lack proper training. The foregoing conditions serve as the rationale for the establishment of the Sigma Security Training Academy.

The Sigma Security Training Academy is envisioned as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sigma Security Services Incorporated. The training academy will offer a variety of asset security and VIP protection training courses for both in house security personnel and third party security agencies. The academy would be offering instruction courses for security personnel and protection officers that includes basic security, VIP protection, security supervisor's course and defensive driving. Other available courses include firearm proficiency and armory services.

The academy's initial security in-service training would begin in the second quarter of 2003, and will comprise four training classes annually with an average of fifty students each. It will also undertake pre-licensing security training for prospective security applicants at initially one class during the third quarter of 2003 and would conduct specialized security training courses as the opportunity presents itself during the course of the year. For 2004, it would expand its security training coverage to include third party security agencies. Moreover, by next year, the academy's training classes would be increased to six classes and there would be two-pre-licensing security training.

The training academy would function as a financially independent income-generating profit center for the company. Its income would be drawn from the enrollment fees from in-service training and pre-licensing courses. On the other hand, additional income from other sources such as armory operations and the sale of re-loaded ammunition for the purpose of range practice is expected to further increase the academy profitability. The project was approved by our Chief Operating Officer Katrina Ponce Enrile and Senior Vice President Persiverando Lukban of our Property and Security Group, AVP/OUH Armando Ponce Enrile of Sigma Securities Incorporated and Chief Security Officer Captain Gregor Panelo are currently mapping out the legal and logistical requirements in setting up the training academy.
